چکیده

Understanding residents' intended evacuation behaviors is an increasingly important component of managing complex wildfire events in the United States and elsewhere. Growing evidence suggests that local populations consider a range potential during fire events, yet fewer efforts explore rural intentions or their relationship to mitigations reduce risk aid suppression. This study explores among wildland-urban interface residents Pend Oreille County, Washington, USA. We how mitigation performance (e.g., fuel reduction efforts, structure improvements, active firefighting preparation) differs across three emergent categories evaluate whether factors correlate with participants’ intentions. Our results suggest relatively high proportion area intend stay defend property from wildfire, smaller proportions intending evacuate shelter place. Individuals who are more likely implement strategies when compared those found elements residency status, sex, age, presence children home, perceptions personal efficacy was prepared enough not need were significant influences on group affiliation. For instance, part-time significantly correlated evacuate, while full-time defend. Greater agreement needed because well-prepared related staying defending over evacuating.

Dynamic GIS Case Studies: Wildfire Evacuation and Volunteered Geographic Information

Incorporating the temporal element into traditional GIS is a challenge that has been researched for many years and has many proposed solutions. The implemented system “Extended Dynamic GIS” or EDGIS is based on the “geo-atom” and Space Time Point (STP). EDGIS provides a platform for spatiotemporal data representation, storage, and query in order to address the need for a dynamic GIS to manage c...

Simulation of wildfire evacuation with dynamic factors and model composition

Wildfires cause devastation on communities, most significantly loss of life. The safety of at-risk populations depends on accurate risk assessment and emergency planning. Evacuation modelling and simulation systems are essential tools for such planning and decision making. During a wildfire evacuation, the behaviour of people is a key factor; what people do, and when they do it, depends heavily...

Modeling social behaviors in an evacuation simulator

Building occupants perceive information about the surrounding environment and navigate for safety during emergency evacuation (egress). They often choose their actions by interacting with their social groups and observing the actions of the surrounding crowd. Most egress simulators, however, ignore individuals’ crowd perceptions and social interactions. This paper presents a novel platform, SAF...

Agent-Based Evacuation Behavior Simulations and Evacuation Guidance

Building evacuation analysis has recently received increasing attention, as people are keen to assess the safety of occupants. Reports on past disasters indicate that human behavior characterizes evacuation during emergencies. The understanding and modeling of human behavior enable improved design of evacuation plans to better reflect the needs of occupants — for example, to reduce evacuation t...
